Book Review:

"We are kept from our goal not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal."

We can call this book a self-help, a guide, or a motivational one. Still, I would say that this is an extremely informative book that will leave the choice upon you, as a reader to discover which & what information suits you the best and how you should implement it in your lives. The author presents the aspects of IQ (Intelligence Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), and SQ (Social Quotient) individually and combinedly, and it will let the reader analyse their personalities: in what category they fall, what they have in abundance, and what they lack.

The author has tried to wrap up almost all the topics about human lifestyle and put a spotlight on it not from the above but from a different direction, he discussed how there’s a divide between people from other classes, their financial status, etc and how social system have engineered this limited mindset about what we should be and what we should do, how our psychology is affected by the groups we are associated with, how social media has drastically shifted our definition of success, how being different from the majority is what we need sometimes, how we should work on our intents before implementing any actions, and my best section- The Altruistic Path.

Rajeev Kharyal didn’t try to make this a book with some complicated intellectual examples; rather, he used some prevalent daily life examples to present his point. He also used the analogy of George Orwell’s Animal Farm to discuss the corruption of Ideals in Group Dynamics. He has even gone above and beyond and created a two-page snakes & ladders game to describe virtues, attitudes, and character traits, and a solar system example to explain cultivating positive energy. The comparison and contrast of the human body to the distribution of electricity and of inner well-being with a tree and its roots, leaves, branches, and trunk is something I have read for the first time.

"Information is food for the mind, and understanding is digestion.

Feed wisely, digest deeply to fuel your success."

The best part of the book for me is how our whole being is about these three things- IQ, EQ, SQ and how easy this book made it for me to find out who am I- A Doer, A Thinker, A Holistic Achiever, or two of them, or a bit of all three. The book ends with pages of exercises to Assess Yourself, activities that make this book a real treat.

Important Points from the Book:

  • 3A Framework- Awareness, Acceptance, Action
  • 3E Framework- Experience, Express, Evolve
  • Hierarchy of IQ (Intelligence Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient), and SQ (Social Quotient)
  • How to reach towards Holistic Development
  • Dimensions of Human Excellence
  • Virtue Nutrient Connection Chart
  • The Garden Analogy
  • Choosing Empathy over Fear
  • The Importance of thinking for yourself
  • From Powerlessness to Possibility
Conclusion:

The book will definitely bring out a change in the way one thinks or acts, but it's not a bite of food which one can just swallow in a go and expect to have a lingering taste, the book demands to be read with utter caution and full concentration. I would even go to the extent and say make notes, because that's what I did. The book is really impactful and can you your companion in the journey of being your bestest version.
